The CSA T20 Challenge is in full swing, and the Momentum Multiply Titans secured a tie and one defeat this past week.
A look at this week’s results;
Momentum Multiply Titans vs Hollywoodbets Dolphins – SuperSport Park, Centurion
Bryce Parsons' century propelled the Hollywoodbets Dolphins to a comfortable 30-run victory via the DLS Method over the Momentum Multiply Titans in Centurion on Wednesday.
With Dolphins batting first, Parsons powered to an unbeaten 102* off 48 deliveries (8 fours and 7 sixes).
He, along with Jon-Jon Smuts (61* off 33, including 8 fours and 2 sixes) amassed an unbroken 156-run partnership as the visitors posted a competitive total of 184 runs for the Titans to chase.
Earlier, inclement weather conditions halted play, with the visitors on 29-1 after 3.2 overs, following an early breakthrough by David Wiese, who dismissed Grant Roelofsen for 11 runs. The match was eventually reduced to 14 overs per side.
Facing a daunting target, the Titans' response was met with formidable resistance from the Dolphins' bowling unit, which consistently chipped away at the opposition's batting lineup, ultimately limiting them to 152/5 in their allotted 14 overs.
Joshua van Heerden (56 off 35) provided some resistance for the hosts, well supported by Wiese who scored a quick (30* from 13).
Standout performances from the Dolphins' bowlers further solidified their dominance, with Okuhle Cele emerging as the most impactful, claiming two crucial wickets in his spell of three overs. Meanwhile, skipper Prenelan Subrayen showcased his mettle by maintaining tight control over the proceedings, conceding just 15 runs while also picking up a wicket in his two overs.
Momentum Multiply Titans vs World Sports Betting Western Province – DP World Wanderers, Johannesburg
A magical spell of bowling by David Wiese helped the Momentum Multiply Titans come back from a dire situation to rescue a superb tie against World Sports Betting Western Province on T20 Challenge double header day in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Batting first after losing the toss, they scrambled their way to a modest 147/7 thanks in the main to a dashing 37 off 23 balls by South Africa Under-19 star, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, and an unbeaten 39 by Proteas all-rounder Neil Brand.
Wayne Parnell, Beuran Hendricks (both 2/23) and George Linde (2/25) all played pivotal roles in restricting the defending champions.
Then in reply, Province made a flying start and were charging along on 92/0 thanks to Edward Moore (55 off 52 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) and David Bedingham (49) when Wiese was introduced to inflict a damning reversal.
With rain looming, he then removed rising South Africa batter Bedingham and Kyle Verreynne (6) in successive overs and also took out Linde (17) and Onke Nyaku (0) in back-to-back deliveries at the end of the 19th over to stun the Cape side.
Veteran Wiese was also aided by Tabraiz Shamsi (2/31), and with 10 needed from the last over, got most of what they required only for the weather to intervene and help the Titans claim a famous tie.
The Momentum Multiply Titans will travel to Potchefstroom to take on the Auto Investments North West Dragons on Monday, 01 April 2024.
