GET TO KNOW YOUR V-AREA BETTER

Our intimate area tends to be quite a mystery with many of us not paying too much attention to that area of our bodies. We only really think about them when something doesn’t feel right, but having a better understanding means we can take better care of our health.

Shaista Sophia, Medical Pharmacist and Founder of South Africa’s first intimate skincare range SKINSTEM™ explained that, “Our V-area includes our inner thighs, butox and bikini area. These part of our bodies, just like the rest of our body requires care and attention in order for us to feel carefree, confident and healthy.”

Getting to know your V-area is much more rewarding than you might think. When you look good, you feel good – and that’s the best part.

“There are three common questions people always ask when it comes to their V-area and we break it down for you below”

  • How do I take care of my V-area?

The quick and easy answer is just as you take of the rest of your body. Your V-area tends to be a more sensitive part of your body (for men and women) as it doesn’t get much ventilation, most people either wax, shave or laser themselves leaving the skin raised and irritated and its more prone to rubbing and friction caused by our clothes. To manage this, you need to establish a three step quick and easy skincare routine for your V. A simple cleanse and exfoliation, good serum and hydrating moisturiser will do the trick. This helps nourish your V, remove dead skin cells, and combat the effects of shaving such as pigmentation and discolouration as well as prevent ingrown hairs.

  • How many times a week should I exfoliate my V and how do I do it?

The first step is finding a gentle, paraben, sulphate and colorant free non-comedogenic exfoliator developed for the delicate skin of the bikini line. SKINSTEM’s V-Exfoliator is a double mechanical and enzymatic exfoliator with naturally occurring AHAs that gently help promote skin resurfacing, evens skin tone and smoothens out texture and bumps. Use your exfoliator with lukewarm water in the shower. Rub a bit onto your fingertips and gently massage onto your inner thighs, bikini line and butox for 2 to 3 mins. Rinse and pat dry. This should be done two to three times a week.

  • How many times a week should I be taking care of my V?

You should take care of your V daily. Just as you would wash your face daily, the same applies to your V. A deep penetrating serum made to brighten and restore that area will do wonders for the appearance of your skin down there. Summer bodies were made in Winter and now is the time to take advantage of not having to show that area just yet. Never skip your moisturiser, no matter what you do. This is key to a smooth and soft V. Look for ingredients like: Hyaluronic acid, Aloe Vera, Glutathione, Vitamin B5, B6, and Vitamin C for optimal moisture, skin elasticity, and brightening of the skin. Cleanser daily, exfoliate twice a week, serum and moisturise daily.

“To see effective results you need to be consistent with your routine. With regular skincare application for your V you will start to see results that you will love. There’s no quick fix to good healthy skin,” concluded Sophia.
